Aurora Research Institute is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to fundamental and applied research. We publish openly, share our data, and collaborate across disciplines and borders.
Explore our research Recent publicationsOur work spans the life sciences, the physical sciences and the computational methods that connect them. Every programme is built around reproducibility, open data and long-horizon questions.
From single-cell atlases to protein structure prediction, we build models that make biological systems legible and testable at scale.
High-resolution Earth-system modelling, carbon-cycle dynamics and the statistical foundations of climate attribution.
Design and characterisation of correlated-electron and topological materials, with a focus on open instrument data.
Trustworthy machine learning, causal inference and the methodology of computational discovery across the sciences.
Circuits, cognition and computation — linking neural activity to behaviour through open, shared datasets.
How research is funded, reviewed and reused. We study the institutions of science to make them more efficient and equitable.
A selection of recent peer-reviewed work. Preprints and datasets are available from our open repository.
Our researchers come from more than three dozen countries and work in small, collaborative groups. We are committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists.
We are recruiting postdoctoral fellows and PhD students across all programmes. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Short- and long-term visits are supported through our international exchange programme.
Weekly research seminars are open to the public and streamed online. Recordings are archived.
Aurora Research Institute was founded to give researchers the freedom and time to pursue important questions. We are funded by competitive grants, philanthropic support and an endowment, and we publish all of our results openly.
Our scientific advisory board reviews each programme annually. All code, data and protocols are released under open licences wherever legally and ethically possible.
